The six hour deep-listening event will take place on Saturday October 1st, 2022 at 99 Scott in Bushwick, Brooklyn. To capture the golden hours for all their beneficial effects, the experience will start prompty at 5pm and end at 11pm.

Our intention with Reforest: Inner Outer is to test our theory that quadraphonic sound, or four channel/spatial sound, in a concert setting with the artist surrounded by the audience is an underappreciated way of allowing artists and listeners explore a shared sense of well-being and interconnectedness.

In fact, there is a growing branch of research dedicated to exploring such phenonema. This research paper is especially illuminating; The Effects of Spatial Sound on Human Well-Being

But why test that theory? Because we believe, as many eastern philosophers and pracitioners do, that a universal sense of oneness and interconnectedness is THE antidote to most, if not all, of modern human problems. And, thus, we see it is a worthy use of our time and resources to create such a unique and special event.

To really test that theory, though, we believe our event needs to provide plenty of opportunities to help artist and guest reach a vulnerable and expressive state. So,we will have on offer facilitated breathwork, instructor led sound meditation and a cacao ceremony.

While these interventions are recommended to maximize the potential for you to be touched in a meaningful way by the entire experience, your choice and your intentions are, obviously, paramount. You are the master of your domain. Any efforts you make to "drop-in" to a receptive state will only multiply the benefits you get from the event.

In a city of overwhelming chaotic sounds it can be even more significant to cultivate spaces with intentional music making between the artist and listener that convey a sense of well-being. With quadraphonic, or spatial sound, these moments can be even more profound.

With these opportunities in mind, we would like to invite you to arrive promptly at 5pm to feel enveloped by the warmth of Laraaji's pioneering and visionary consciousness expanding live show and stay the full six hours until Aïsha brings you to a transcendently mystical climax. In the hours in between you will bear witness to both early pioneers in the creation of moving, ambient electronic landscapes (Drew McDowall) and nouveau renegades of the art (KMRU, Lara Sarkissian and UCC Harlo).

Event Rules

Given that all humans are connected to one another as well as to all other living things, you would think we needn't rules to ensure we behave in a manner that facilitates our shared sense of oneness. Aren't the benefits of doing so readily apparent? Alas, as most would argue, we are imperfect beings evolved for something other than such transcendent goals. With that in mind, please read and remember the following event rules and values. You will be held to them.

* We seek to create and maintain a safe and diverse space where consent and respect are our first priorities.
* Please keep your phones in your pockets at all times: *absolutely* no photos or videos allowed.
* Do not willfully damage or compromise the space or its guests or employees in any manner.
* Harassment of any kind (unwanted contact, verbal or physical abuse, racism, homophobia, transphobia, body-shaming, misogyny, etc.) will NOT be tolerated and will lead to immediate discharge from the venue; this includes any sort of harassment or aggression both inside and outside the space.
* For these reasons, a ticket does not guarantee entry, and will be voided if you are to be found in violation of any of these rules.

Reforesters Laboratory is a forthcoming shop for regenerative and regenerating products in Williamsburg, Brooklyn which will be backed by an event space and spatial sound studio in which experiences with sound and breathwork will be shared.

The Laboratory is the sister organization of Reforesters Farm, a 400 acre agroforestry initiative on the traditional territory of Kanienʼkehá꞉ka people (Mohawk) in what is currently called Bloomville, NY. In the first year on the farm, significant earth works were undertaken to slow water on the property and 35,000 seedlings for nut and fruit producing trees and shrubs were planted.

But what is Reforesters really all about? To quote our mission statement,"we strive to learn, socialize and employ innovative and “forgotten” methods for reversing monoculturization of mind, body, Earth and economy."

Of course, any effort with such lofty goals takes time. We anticpate decades of work ahead with at first slowly, but eventually exponentially, accumulating benefits.

It should be no surprise by now that we use the metaphor "inner reforestation" to describe a process of self improvement or growth. While it may seem like a flippant or fun way of thinking about such work, we think the term "reforestation" highlights a potentially valuable philosophical framework for thinking about how we can improve life on Earth in general. "Inner reforestation" refers our efforts to reverse monoculturization of our minds and bodies while the more obvious and literal "outer reforestation" refers to our efforts to reverse monoculturization of Earth and economy.

Our intent to make such a statements stems from our belief that "monoculturization", of mind, body, Earth and economy, has been the principle cause of many if not most of human problems throughout history. This is a theory of course, and a philosophical framework, but one we believe in wholeheartedly - enough to set a new intention for our lives. Those interested can read more about this thesis by clicking below.

As we ramp up our efforts to reverse monoculturization of mind, body, Earth and economy, you should know that Reforest: Inner Outer is our inaugural event, through which we hope to socialize these ideas in a "show, not tell" sort of way. Don't expect a lecture, expect an experience.

Arguably, the most important part of embracing a philosophical framework, is putting it into practice.
